Highboy power steering/assist hose routing

Okay. Finally got around to putting the saginaw pump and new power steering lines on the 74 today but ran into a routing issue. I have the right and left steering lines where they need to go but my pressure and return don't play well. The old hoses were long gone so I had nothing to compare too. Does any highboy owners have pics of the routing for theirs?

No, not yet. Played with it a while today but no matter how I route the pressure and return line will not play nice together for mounting

I hate these power assist systems.
I can't believe that it took Ford until 1977.5 to replace that garbage system.

I can look at mine tomorrow too.

I don't have a drawing for a Bendix, but here is a Garrison. Hopefully it helps.

And here is this.

Years ago I rebuilt the control valve on my 1970 Torino GT and crosses two of the lines.
I filled it up with fluid, started the engine and let it idle for a minute or two.
I went to turn the steering wheel an it ripped out of my hands and went full lock the opposite direction.
It just about ripped my hand off.

I recently replaced the original leaking PS lines in my 75 F250 4x4 with similar aftermarket lines as Lnuttrel; I also got the same negative results.
I've discovered that the aftermarket lines DO NOT have the correct clamping arrangement to stay in place when the PS system valve starts moving. See right hand side of slikwillies graphic in post #5.
All 4 lines MUST be clamped together AND attached to the frame just before the hard lines transition to rubber lines. Once the 4 hard lines are fixed, the rubber portion can flex as its supposed to.
I tried cutting off the clamps from my original lines and grafting them onto the new lines with a bit of success. Ultimately I popped for a set of 4 NOS PS lines (pricey).
Haven't installed them yet as one of my other leaks turned out to be a cracked block which lead me to pull the FE360 and get a FE390 built. That's sitting on my garage floor right now as I struggle thru the early FE block motor mount issue. More on that as I figure it out.

If you still have your old lines you might try having a local hydraulic shop rebuild them.
Again its the clamping strength/arrangement/location that is critical.

I played with it for a while today and have come to the foregone conclusion that I will just have to find a happy place and make brackets for the pressure and return lines. The left/right hoses worked out right.

Here is another pic. As tbruz precisely articulated, replacement lines just don't have proper mounting brackets for an OEM type install. I did same cutting brackets from old lines and welding to new with moderate success in an attempt to maintain OEM look. As long as the lines are secured so they don't rub on each, other or on something else they will be fine. These pics were plucked from a 77 ebay listing a while back. Not mine

Thanks for the responses. I am pretty sure the replacement hoses are bent different than the originals. The rubber portions may be a little longer as well. I am going to just make a new mounting bracket for pressure/return lines. Hopefully i can get some time this weekend but I am on call so we'll see.

Your pressure line looks workable.
The return line is low pressure, so you may be able to rotate the hose at the clamp to hard line. Carefully bend hard-line to align with the pressure line.
You may have to consult a hyd hose shop if needing hose slightly longer. Hang in there an be patient.
