Electrical question

We have unseasonably nice weather so I took the 48 for a ride.
I noticed the amp meter was almost pegged to the right running down the road. At idle it came back down to about an 1/8 to the right.
I checked the battery voltage before i even started it 6.2v. After I got home I checked the voltage at idle 6.2v then I reved the engine and it went up to 8.2v
Am I over reacting or is this a sign of electrical problems to come?

Technically, the voltage regulator should be set between 7.4 and 7.8 volts. There is a whole section in the shop manual on these units and their adjustments if you are curious/adventurous.

Thanks. It’s got a new regulator. I’ll see if it’s adjustable or maybe go back to the original.

Let us know if you switch back to the old regulator and your seeing around 7.4 to 7.8 volts. I wonder if these new 6 volt regulators are adjusted anywhere close to what they should be. Maybe a better question for those of you that worked back in the day in dealerships, car repair shops, gas stations etc. Was adjusting a brand new voltage regulator always part of the repair process? Or were they adjusted pretty close from the factory way back then?

Thanks you very much for that video.
Since I don’t have his nice bench set up I did it on the truck. I also disconnected the battery each time I made an adjustment as I didn’t want to risk shorting anything. A very minor adjustment goes a long way. After multiple tries I got it to 7.3v, I’m good with that.
The amp gauge in the truck now only goes 3/4 with enough rpm to be charging but no electrical load other than ignition.
Another thing off my

I could be way off base since I'm no electrical engineer, but my takeaway from the video was matching the amps at the regulator with the generator rating was more important than being too concerned with voltage output, although both seemed to work hand in hand. At 35 amps, the gauge on his machine was reading 9.5 volts, and he didn't seem concerned. It seemed high, to me, and maybe more adjustment was necessary, he just didn't cover that.

I too saw the ~9 volts as well which confused me, but I'm not an expert on the particular test equipment being used. The regulator should regulate the voltage irrespective of the load (within spec).

I was having a rough time with my voltage and went through 5 voltage regulators from NAPA before Pinecone Ford (Maine Tom) sent that video and all has been well for about 5 years now.
