I just got a letter yesterday. When I'm backing into my garage my backup camera is basically black while the rest of the cameras are getting dull light. The backup camera doesn't lighten up unless the rest of my cameras get shaded. I do have 360 cameras.
Mine has been doing that since day 1. I guess enough complaints got to the right ears to make a difference.
2021 F350 CC Long bed 6.7 dually. With trailer tow and 360 camera. safety recall notice 25SA8/NHTSA recall 25V686. Received recall letter 11-2-25. “ software is not currently available. Ford Motor Company is working to provide software for this repair…. When the remedy is available, Ford Motor Company will send a letter to inform you to contact your dealer to schedule a repair.”
I received the recall yesterday; my letter says it is already complete via OTA software update. I have never had a problem with my cameras. However, I seldom back into a dark space and when backing I use mirrors; so, maybe I didn't notice.
I did some testing. Backing into a dark garage, the backup camera is not useable until the front of the truck starts in (first photo); this after mine was supposedly updated. I did a little experimenting; found that if I manually selected the back up camera (as opposed to when it comes on with reverse), it works much better (second photo). Both photos were taken with the front of the truck out in daylight.
The work-around until Ford figures this out is to manually select the rear view camera instead of using the one that pops up when the truck is put into reverse.
My dealer called me 2 weeks ago and wanted me to drop the truck off so they could do the recall repair for the rear camera.
I told them that I would not drop off my truck for a whole day for this.
They made an appointment with me for their tech to come to my house and do the rear camera recall work.
As far as I know all they did was replace the old camera.
Took them about 45 minutes.
The picture is slightly better but not near as clear as the one on my 2024 Ranger.
I can tell you that the problem still persist on my 2023 truck, although your recalls just list the 20-22 model trucks. I almost always have to switch to the full screen vs the defaul when I back into my garage in order to get clear view of what I'm backing into. Mine is also a Platinum with the top of Tailgate cameras. Which I have an outstanding recall for and Ford dealer keeps telling me they have no fix for it currently.
I figure this out within a half hour of driving my truck off the lot. Nearly five years later Ford sends me formal written notice that they have, in fact, finally discovered this, too... but that they have no fix as of yet.
