Is it typical for the 08 f250 to have dim lights? Was given to me by a relative who passed recently and tonight was the first time I've drove it in the dark. It felt like the headlights weren't even on, but i got out and checked and sure enough they were.
First thingto do is use a voltmeter across the connector for the HL bulb and get a reading. Then connect the negative of the meter to the neg. of the battery and see if there is a difference. Many times grounds get corroded and headlamps dim.
Dont mind me, but that dont look like a F250 front end. This is what a OEM 08 F250 headlight should look like. The pic you posted look like snake oil bling junk somebody changed out.
This is the truck, 08 F250 superduty super cab. So, the best thing for me to do is check ground wire first? Or should i buy bulbs and see if thats the issue first?
shoot, I should have been more specific. Its a powerstroke. This is what the headlights look like.
Gotcha... I wasn't saying it wasn't an electrical problem but was just surmising it possibly could have been from lens "yellowing" like seen on older vehicles...
Like stated, that's a aftermarket, looks like a cheaper Made in China assembly, so that right there could be your issue more than likely...
Your cheapest option would be to go back to the OEM style headlight assemblies, cheap on EBay and put in a quality halogen bulb or go LED with a Morimoto replacement LED bulb or GTR Lighting replacement LED bulb. There are others out there as well. Let me know if you want any more info on those.
There are cheap options on EBay for projector style headlights different from the OEM assemblies but you do get what you pay for when it comes to headlight assemblies. Because you are now dealing with the lack of performance in those cheaply made assemblies that had no engineering put into them, hence the cheap price -- go on EBay and you will see...
Spend the money, if you want, on a set of quality LED bulbs like listed above.
first thing i would do is check the alternator output, most auto parts stores will for free, check light grounds ,bulbs, if the alternator isn't putting out properly you will have dim lights
Ive replaced a couple pairs of headlight assemblies in our vehicles. IIRC they were TCY from rockauto. They are imports but I was always impressed with the quality and years later still clear as new.
