Thanks for taking a look at my post. Im at a dead end and figured someone here has ran into what I’m running into.
i own a 2004 F250 5.4L 2v Extended cab long bed. I have owned it for a few years and it has low miles as it was a farm truck, but VERY rusty and body is rough.
1) A few months ago when I backed out of a parking spot, it developed a huge clunk noise when I put it from any gear —> reverse.
2) When I approach stop signs/red lights, the truck has almost a binding noise underneath me.
3) When I’m on the highway, cruising theirs is a slight vibration that disappears when I let off the gas, then starts when I start cruising again.
My first thought was u-joints.
1) none of the 3 are leaking and all look fine.
2) none have any play at all.
Could it still be u joints? Im seeing very conflicting opinions on other forums and posts. Figured id consult the experts!
Thank you very much for your time and Happy Holidays

Yes, it could be the u-joints, as they look pretty rusty and the seals look dry. I have had u-joints that looked like that, had no play, but were 'clunky' when the driveshaft was removed and flexed by hand. Popped one of those apart and rust fell out - there were no needles left in the needle bearings.
That said, I would be concerned about your carrier bearing as well - it's looking a little worse for wear too.
Replace the U-joints, clean and lubricant the slip joint. Ford uses a special grease for the slip joint. Take it easy removing the hardware, soak with good penetrating lubricant for a few days tapping on the bolt heads each time you spray. If you can use some heat on them.
