If he has removed the hard line from the filter and had it pointed to a container to catch fuel, crank the motor and see if you have fuel out of the hard line.
I know you said you had fuel when you undid the line from the filter but that does not mean you are getting a good flow of fuel.

If you do get a good flow of fuel when cranking but none into the carb my gut is telling me you may have that filter screwed in too far as it should not be that far screwed in.
Depending how the carb is machined the filter outlet into the carb could be blocked.
Guess you could pull the carb off and remove the top and look to see if it is blocked?

The other thing you might want to do is replace all the rubber fuel line hose.
They are old and they dry out and crack abd then the pump will suck air and not fuel.

It also gets hard and breaks easily, I had that happen to the 5/16" fuel hose between the tank and fuel line on the frame when I dropped the tank. That line was replaced about 15 years ago when the sending unit was replaced last. That hose was hard and broke in two with no effort what so ever.

Its worse if you dont use the correct hose, I found out the vent hose was not fuel rated nor vapor rated, it was a plain old hose and I have to find a vapor hose in 1/4" to replace that with to prevent it from hardening with age as well.

Vary true. There is a LOT of different types of hoses out there. Do some research, and make sure you got the right stuff. SO many of the "junk new hoses" I see are just the wrong stuff used.

well i dont know if everyone will see this but the update is i got it taken to a shop willing to look at it. There was fuel leaking out beneath the carb from what they told me. They said to get a new carb so I guess I'll see what happens. I do have future plans to get this truck basically restored to the best that it can be at a later point. Just gotta save enough money for that.

Don't worry, we like to know what's going on. Please keep us updated. We all can learn...

some may think badly about turning in their man card. But we all need to know it’s smart to ask for help when needed.

Fortunately I haven't been issued a man card, so I have no worry about losing one. I think you're issued a man card after a long apprenticeship at one if two schools, one kind where you have to pay tuition. The other school is tuition free but does come with a few hard knocks....

Well, the carb has been replaced and its running. Coat me a bit but they gave me a 1 year warranty. They took this picture of below the carb and the screw driver is pointed at a plunger? Of some kind. This was where the fuel was leaking from. Only thing for me is was this a faulty part, bad instal (was several months ago so i would think not....) and was it possible that it could be at the fault of me. Is there something that I could have done to u intentionally cause this issue? If so what? I seriously need to get a class on how these things work so I can address issues from a better point.

I would double check and confirm there are no additional filters along the fuel line. There are not supposed to be any fuel filters on the suction side of the pump. But it is a fairly common practice, and not unusual to find them cut in and forgotten by PO.

That old carb looked fairly new... lots of junk parts out there now days.

Glad you got the 1 year warranty.

Please talk with us before you buy parts, Short lesson learned, don't buy the cheap part. It will cost more in the long run.

There is nothing down on the bottom of the carb that can leak. I suspect your float was stuck, and the carb was overflowing with fuel. While most of the fuel was pouring down inside the engine and flooding it out, the reason it would not run correctly, some of the fuel was also making it's way through any hole or crevice it could find and was dripping from the bottom of the carb.

All you want to know about this carb in this link. https://www.garysgaragemahal.com/carter-yfa-1bbl.html

Sorry, I can’t agree with that statement. I’m curious about the designer of the carb. Where did he grow up? Did he have any childhood pets? What was his favorite color?

I think I seen it posted somewhere he grew up in Tabet, had a kangaroo as a pet and his favorite color was an off color Teal

That Carter arb is stupid simple carb and other than shaft & body wear I cant see mush going wrong with it.
Now I do know there are 2 different way carb floats get set based on the shape of the float IIRC.
I wish there was a better picture of where it was leaking at but I think DaveF is right that the bowl was over flowing and dripping out where it could.
