Actually the open rear end carriers and the LS carriers will interchange, as long as they are equal rear end size carriers.
The ring gear that's on your open rear carrier will bolt right up to the LS counter part.
In lame mans terms the open carriers and the LS carriers are of the same dimensions, just the internals of the LS carrier are different.
Also, nothing beats a first hand inspection to make sure it wasn't added like I did to mine. If you jack up the rear and can turn the wheels with it in park then its open. If they won't turn, but will turn the same direction when you take it out of park its LS.

That's very true, especially if you like swap in LS's like I do.
I sure that the owner of my recently traded off Ranger is in for a surprise...The door tag says open rear but there's a LS in thanks to me.
