Im new to forums and hope this is in the right place. I recently purchased a1976 coe one door badge says 600 vin is D70BVC91305 so im assuming it's actually a 700? Any help decoding the vin is greatly appreciated
B = Caterpillar V190-3208 636 CID V-8 diesel engine. (Other diesels are listed under this code but as best I can find it should be a 3208 for a C series)
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
C91305 = 1976 numerical series, July 1976 production.
Doors get changed, sometimes they bring the warranty plate from the donor truck, sometimes the old plate is put on the new door. If you have the correct plate for your truck we can decode that as well.
Thank you for the fast response! Looks like I bought a bit of a Frankenstein the driver door/ vin tag is from a c8000 passenger door from c600 the vin is gave you is on the title and a build tag an the drivers side door post. Im having trouble finding a vin on the frame. The truck has a gas motor I believe to be a 361 I was looking for a rear wheel cylinder it has wagner part number fd-19110 and as far as i can tell that would be 1980 or newer
-Your pictured truck has 6 lugs. I'm pretty sure the C700 would have had 10 lug wheels.
-The body maker tag says GVWR 24,500 lbs. No C700 shows that number as a GVWR--maybe they just added up the axle ratings.
-Engine is an FT, 361 would be OK. If it was a diesel as OEM, the swap out to gas would be probably be evident in the cab controls and instruments, fuel tanks, certain wiring and other stuff that might not look "right"
-That section of frame shown in your engine pic is where the VIN is said to be in most discussions. Maybe further back, maybe inside the rail?

She's a beauty! for brake parts, I found springs and cylinders on " Parts Geek", For rear wheel hub seals they were leather Stemco, I went to my local napa, they were able to cross refrence the number on my old seals to find the match, good luck.
Thanks i was able to find vin on frame right side ahead of leaf spring perch turns out it matches cab however idont see any evidence of the motor being swaped
I'm with Ed: according to docs I have, a D70 should have had a diesel powerplant, and the wheels on a 700/7000 series have always been 10-lug as far as I can recall. But the VIN on your title, frame, and cab sticker all agree, so [shrug].
Maybe this was some weird factory-ordered DSO thing. Or maybe someone did a really good job of a gas conversion.
Im definitely confused! Everything about the truck says c600 except the vins! Another thing to note is the parking brake was completely removed the only thing left is the hole in the dash. What type of brake did these have?
the Parking brake is probably a driveline drum brake mounted to the rear of the transmission, cable operated., there was a lever mounted through the dash hole you speak of
