I purchased an old f500 dump truck, which I believe is a 1968, but my mechanic thinks it is a 1975. I have the VIN which is F50CRC75294. Can someone help me decode the VIN?
I did transfer the title but it was a lost title application. Truck has 44,000 miles and has spent its whole life on a 200 acre state facility. We got it running last night. Will be checking the brakes and then taking it for a test drive.
C = 330 2V MD FT gas V8. (this engine, if original, uses the 352 cast crank, and the smaller (1/4") oil pump drive, and possibly other FE bits, but heads, pistons, block, manifolds--all FT)
R = San Jose Assembly Plant
C75294 = 1968 numerical series, January 1968 production
156 = 156 inch wheelbase
U = Medium Green
F504 = F500, 18,000 lbs GVWR
4 = Black ladder and crush vinyl
81 = Should be regular cab, cab and chassis vehicle
A = New Process model 435 four speed transmission
42 = Rockwell model D-100 single speed rear axle, 13,000 lbs capacity, 6.20 ratio
No front axle code--for '64-'69, only optional axles were listes. So a Ford front axle, probably 5,000 lbs capacity. There will be info stamped or cast into the axle itself for further identification
18000 = 18,000 lbs GVWR
164 3800 = 164 certified net HP @ 3800 RPM
74 = Seattle District Sales Office
No special order. Bought from dealer inventory.
Calculate your loads carefully.
Does the hoist work?

Reason: correct front axle minimum
The hoist works great. The only issue I am having is finding window seals. The overhang on the dump bed is helping to protect the inside of the cab since water is not able to reach the window while sitting. Does the seals match the f350 of the same year?
