Hi all new to ford trucks and needing help. i bought a 91 f250 custom with a 351w and and blown e4od trans. I read that a c6 conversion is the easiest way to get this truck driving again. I fear I made a mistake and need help fixing or telling me if I'm wasting my time. the C6 i bought supposably came from an 87 mustang floor shift. I thought this would be a simple swap and the more I dig into this the more I seam to be falling down the rabbit whole. the goal is to get the truck to move on its own power right now. so what all do i need to do to get this truck to move with what i have I'm not worried about the kick down right now but I do know I will need to address it. please help I have no idea where to start and fear I have wasted money.
it was a farm truck before i had it i pulled the pan and the fluid was black and smelled burnt it also had no gear at all. and still has the E4OD in it right now.
how can I tell if it is a c6 or and aod I bought it from collector who has a warehouse full of parts and he had FE and small block and big blocks all together.
Your '91 is going to want a signal to and from that E4OD, so you have a can of worms opening here anyway.
To ID the transmission and what it will fit, look at the transmission pan and count the bolts and note the shape. Also look at the bell housing and check the measurements. Compare to the info given here:
I believe I read on a post that you can trick the computer without replacing the ecm. am i incorrect? other wise i would have to get a computer for a manual or a truck with a c6?
As already mentioned there were no C6 transmissions in fox body Mustangs.
Yes, some people have had success by placing the MLPS in park or neutral and using the auto trans computer. You will get fault codes since there won’t be input from the trans.
its just and old farm truck i just want to use it around my property to move stuff. its nothing I plan to make a show truck or even register. i just want it to move under its own power otherwise I'm taking it to the scrap yard. i don't care about codes. it just need to move on its own.

Floor shift vs column shift has nothing to do with the transmission.
That's just linkage, rods & cables.
