Rebuilding the carb again as something didn't feel right. I've attached a 4 sec video of the throttle linkage. This seems very loose to me and I don't think it should be. Looks like the bracket is slipped onto the shaft and peened over. Can I carefully do that and tighten it up? How should this look?
I never saw one loose like that, the lever has a odd shape hole that fits a odd shape end of the shaft and then a press piens it as I recall, some places use a small screw that screws into the shaft to hold it.
Sometime long ago I recall someone suggesting a touch of weld after getting it on the shaft right, but it would have to be short and sweat and if me, off the carb and the shaft covered in protective tape to guard from weld spatter.
thanks for your reply (tbear you are soo reliable for solid info!!) I took a look at a hotrod forum I go to and a guy there with the same problem and same carb had a shop weld it... fortunately I've got TIG, MIG and OA in my shop so I think tomorrow I'll weld this up and see.. I couldn't imagine why it was so loose and was pretty certain it shouldn't be... I'll let you know how it turns out!
