I replaced my brakes and rotors on my 2014 F150 2wd with 6r80 and 2 piece drive shaft. At first I assumed it was related to the just completed brake job. Now I’m wondering if it might be a coincidence and caused be something in the driveline. While stopping the clunking slows down as the truck slows down. I’m planning on degreasing the splines. If I grab the back of the transmission I can move it up and down. There isn’t any leakage. There is also some movement in the rubber at the middle support. The u-joints seem tight. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of repetitive clunking while braking caused by the splines?
I’ve read cases of brakes having a clunking sound when braking due to having installed the brake pads backwards.
Seems too coincidental to be happening immediately following a brake job unless you’re just more attentive to play in the driveline after doing your brakes.
is the clunking sound occurring when braking and traveling in a straight direction or does it occur more when turning?
Is it noticeable after having stopped and then occurs when starting from a stop or just when braking?
So far only when braking. I noticed it going to work as I was driving in the housing tract and took it back home and parked it. I haven’t tried it anywhere else. It doesn’t happen immediately upon touching the brakes but takes a bit as though it’s needs to build up some pressure.
Today I cleaned and regreased the splines in my two piece drive shaft but that didn’t help. I decided to return the rear brakes and rotors since it started after they were put on. It fixed the problem. I haven’t bedded them in yet and the problem started after bedding in on the first set. It makes me wonder if I warped them in the bedding in process. Did I screw them up or are they cheap junk? At least I know what was causing it.
