Hi guys. I replaced the old Speedo cable with a new one but still without a win. Gauge doesn't register. Just wondering if I am missing something? ( A bigger IQ would help) New cable doesn't feel snug in gear. Should it? The gear itself looks fixed and nothing is turning? Any ideas guys?

The end of the gear where the cable fits should be squared off inside to match the cable end. I think I see that the outside shows the squared shape, but perhaps the inside has gotten rounded off?
Hi Ross. Seems likely. It doesn't feel like it's making contact with anything inside that gear. Probably not a lot I can do about it except chase up another gear if they exist.
Maybe heat up just the end of the gear, and punch it on each of the flat sides, to tighten it up? It doesn't need to be really tight, just enough to turn the cable without slipping.
