351W Timing chain replacement.

I'm replacing my timing chain and encountered this how do I proceed?

I know my gasket needs replaced but do I advance it to line the dots up?

Please explain….What did you encounter? Did you put the engine on TDC on cylinder #1 before you took it apart?

You are fine, If you did not pull the distributor. as long as the crank timing gear dot is up, the cam.dot can.be up or down. And if you just pull the chain and gears and did not move anything at all, if does not technically matter where things are pointed. Because it will still be in the same spot when you put it back together.

Going to try that when I put it back together in a few days.

Thank you for the input.
