starter needs help
I've finally been handed down my late grandfather's 64 f-100 and I am planing to rebuilt it into a custom hotrod/showcar. But it needs lots of work. I'm well up for the challenge but I am having problems finding a starting point. I am open to any and all suggestions.
thanks,

First off, Welcome to "FTE" you found the right website! Now you're in the right forum for your 64 F100, thanks to mil1ion. . . .
Since there's nothing wrong with your starter, but you're looking for place to begin your project let's call it a beginning point. I think I may have said these things before a time or two . . . . .
1st Develop your collection of ideas, uses, details, applications resources, facilities, dreams and anything else about the project. Next, Read, Gain, study, think & learn as much about what you want, think you want, and so on. Gain a feel and direction before you begin any actual work, or lay out any cash.
Begin by writing down all your ideas & dreams you have that you want to do with/ for your 64 -F100. Also write down goals & objectives for your visions. It doesn't matter whether you know how to do these things, or if they're reasonable, or realistic at all or even if they can be done. It's raw thought you will refine later.
Also write down what you don't want to do, & what you'd rather avoid altogether.
Next gather data & information on specifics. Like how much will it cost? How long will it take? Is it realistic or reasonable to do? Can you do it, or will you need to have it done, or is it even a good idea to do it? Seem like a lot of work so far? well this preparation will save you time, effort, mistakes, money, and grief in the end.
Remember, "anything" is possible if we have the capacities to do it the way we envision it. We'll all tell you [I don't mean to speak out of turn, or for everybody else here] somethings are just not worth price in effort, time, resources and money. Others are, and even others may or may not be depending on your situation. Only you know what you are capable of.
If you have questions or uncertainties, ask, we're here. Many of us have years of experience, others have lots of knowledge, and all of us seem willing to share it. None of us are born with either. All of us had to learn & acquire whatever we have to offer. There is a consensus that:" THE ONLY TRULY STUPID QUESTIONS ARE THE ONES THAT GO UNASKED, FOR THOSE WONDERING WILL NEVER KNOW THE ANSWERS TO THEM"
By writing it all down where you can look at it, you will be able to refine your thoughts into direction, theme & plan for your project. I refer to this as a "recipe". Once you have a clear idea of it all, lay out an agenda/ itinerary/ schedule you can follow.
What you propose is a lot of work. But doing things without any plan or recipe usually becomes much much more work, perhaps it may even become overwhelming. Many good Ideas, and great dreams have died from empty wallets, lacking resources, failure to know, understand and plan things out. THose are not only too much work, they also are a big waste of everything.
Tell us about your F100, What engine? Long Bed or Short? Is it Styleside or Flareside? 4X2 or 4X4? Automatic, or manual shift?
