Clutch Bolt Size

I am replacing my clutch in my '95 F150, 4.9, 5-speed. I am swapping the 10" clutch with an 11". I heard the bolts are bigger on the 11". Can someone tell me what exact size to buy?

Thank You!

Are you planning on drilling and tapping new bolt holes in you flywheel? Otherwise your only choice is to go back with the same size. I'd probably spring for some new grade-8 bolts.

After reading some threads on here, I was under the impression that the flywheel is pre-drilled for 10" and 11" clutches?????

That may be. Honestly can't remember the last time I looked at one. If it is, that makes it easy. Once you have things apart, you will be able to see what size bolts you need.

I was hoping to have everything I need BEFORE I tear it apart.

The guy at advance auto told me my 87 4.9L was probbably a 10inch clutch but it turns out it was 11, so I had to go buy the different clutch kit and I bought a new flywheel at the same time, Im not sure however if its the same flywheel or not.

I am in the middle of changing the clutch and flywheel on my 84 f150. I had the same dilema. I pulled out an old worn out 11 inch, but everybody in town only stocks the 10 inch clutch. I called my favorite trany shop and asked them. Most flywheels are drilled for either clutch. so I went with the 10 inch since it was available and cheeper. But a word of warning. Much to my shock and horror there is a different bolt size in the flywheel depending on the size. So now I have to go bolt and lock washer shopping. So you can interchage them. Just be prepared to go bolt shopping.

I'm in this exact same situation. Did you find out what bolts are needed for the 11" clutch?

I know this is an older thread, but the correct answer is 3/8"-16 (Qty 6). The only question I have is on the length - it's in the 3/4" to 1" neighborhood - I've seen both indicated. Anyone know with certainty? I'm leaning towards the 1", but clearly you don't want the bolt to bottom-out, so I want to be certain.

I bought the atp brand and what they sent worked great. But in the description it’s says what would amount to 11/16” or 1”. The Dorman brand seem to be 1” as well or just under with the thread length. Also, I’m pretty certain they were the same size as the ones that I took out on the 10” clutch. Sorry it’s been over a year since I was under there.

Also they say 7/16-20 on the ones I linked... but again it’s been a while

Everything I have read indicates that they are NOT the same size as the bolts for the 10" clutch. I've also read it multiple places that they are 3/8-16. 7/16-20 is the flywheel bolt size, so I think that's where your confusion comes from.

This thread is a pretty thorough write-up and indicates that 3/8-16 x 1" bolts with lock washers were used...

Ah yes , for whatever reason I was referring to the flywheel bolts. And I remember now that when I opened it up it already had an 11” clutch so I just reused the bolts in. So please ignore my past post...

You're pretty smart for a dummy!

Thanks for the details - at 7/8", looks like it's right smack between 3/4" and 1". I guess if you use a lock washer, 1" is correct.
