Virtually at the 19 year mark (officially will be on 10/30), and hit 250k miles. All it took to get here is $50,850 of fuel (apprx. 16,730 gallons), and a "few" (LOL) mods! Average fuel economy has been disappointing (just under 15 mpg overall), but as we put it in the early days - we are driving a (heavy) virtual "brick"!

.
EDIT: See post #16 for a discussion/list of modifications done (some required for this longevity, but many were just my preference and clearly optional).

They work when they are properly maintained.

I wish you many more miles with your truck!

Thank you! Truly been pleased with the truck, but the expenses were quite a bit more than the numbers I had in the "back of my mind" going into this truck all those years ago!

I wish I had kept better track of the cost of the modifications, but, I bet I have spent at least $20,000 for them (MANY were conveniences). Then, I have done 48 oil changes at about $100 - $120 per change for say $5,000 - $6,000 total (approximately), and also approximately 20 fuel filter changes for around $1000 - $1500 total. Also, 9 transmission fluid changes and flushes at $200 or so each time (series of 3 drain and fills). So a couple of grand for that. And of course all these AGM batteries haven't been cheap, lol!!

Fuel, mods, fluids and filters, are all totaling (as best that I am able) around $80,000 for these years! And that doesn't even include all the (20") tires that I have been through!!! A lot to think about for the kids just starting out in life with very limited funds, thinking that diesel truck's are cool!

Thankfully, little to no rust! Original injectors still (although I can see a new set coming soon) and HPOP also original. Transmission still original with the only work being fluids and filters.

I know 250k miles isn't all that much for diesel engines/trucks, but I wanted to illustrate cost of ownership a bit, Also, I doubt that my driving of it in the future will be much more than a few thousand miles a year. At this future estimated rate of use, the truck will probably outlast me, lol. This has met my definition of a "lifer" truck!

That is great to hear.

I hit the 21 year mark in April and as Hartwig mentioned, maintained these trucks are awesome.

I refer to my truck as the hot girlfriend who costs me ALOT of money and treats me like cr*p sometimes but I just can't get rid of her

I paid 39,200 in 2004 and have probably dumped as much into the truck since...or more

Proper maintenance and a caring owner will reap these results. I hope you can get another 250K out of her.
I have an '06 with 190K. I feel lucky if I can get to 250K.
Your help on this site is a valuable asset to all of us. Thanks.

I just finished a 7500 mile trip (WA-AK-WA) in my 6.0 van bringing it up to about 110k. And 18k miles in the past year. (WA-FL-WA-AK-WA)

My 6.0 F250 is at about 225k. My 7.3 F350 is approaching 200k (bought at 100k).

Knock on wood, original transmissions in all of them, no major mechanical failures. Have had some oil leaks and electrical issues under the hood over the years, but overall they are all very healthy and run very well. I won't add up the receipts in mods... that would be scary.

Thank you for all your help on the forum!

Congrats Bismic. I think my power plant will most definitely outlast the body. Here’s to buckets of Fluid Film and black spray bombs.

That's awesome! Amazing to see what some maintenance and care can do to make a vehicle last. Not too many original owners left I'm sure.

Curious what was your original purchase price? What trim level/options? New Diesel Lariat is well over $80k now...

2003 Lariat 6.0L SuperCab Long Bed 4x4 FX-4: MSRP $43,945. Purchased at the end of May 2003. I don't remember the final price, but dealer fees were waived with X-Plan discount.
