2009 f150 power code remote start system

I have a 2009 f150 with a dealer installed power code remote start system (2 way). Everytime I try to get it to start it will beep once and then flash the pats system. After it fails to start it doesn’t beep anymore to show trouble codes. Looking for some help to diagnose and fix my system, dealership is no help.

Looks like you might have a theft system fault.

To troubleshoot a non-working Ford Gen 2 remote start, first
check that the hood, doors, and trunk are closed, the transmission is in Park, and the key isn't in the ignition. If a check engine light is on or the theft indicator is blinking, address those issues. Also, ensure the remote start feature is enabled in your vehicle's settings and your key fob battery isn't dead. If the vehicle starts and then shuts off, it may be a key authentication issue, and driving the vehicle for a period can resolve this.

Common Issues & Solutions
  • Door/Hood Ajar: The system won't start if any door, the hood, trunk, or tailgate is open. Make sure everything is fully closed.
  • Transmission Not in Park: The vehicle must be in Park (P) for the remote start to function.
  • Check Engine Light: If the "Service Engine Soon" light is illuminated, the remote start system will be disabled. Get the codes cleared to reactivate it.
  • Key in Ignition: The key cannot be in the ignition when using the remote start feature.
  • Disabled Feature: Check your vehicle's settings menu to ensure the Remote Start system is turned On.
  • Dead Key Fob Battery: A low battery in the key fob can cause it to fail.
  • Theft Indicator Blinking: A rapidly blinking light indicates a theft system fault. You may need to turn the key to the "Run" position for about 5 minutes until the light turns off.
  • System in Valet Mode: A rapid flashing of the dashboard theft indicator light can signal Valet mode. To exit this mode, turn the ignition ON, press and hold the brake pedal, and press the remote start button three times.

It is not in service/valet mode and is an issue with the theft system. All the normal issues have been checked. I’ve read almost every forum I can find in these remote start systems.i also have not been able to find a service manual for my specific model. That makes programming pretty difficult.

If you really want to get into this, you can get a cable to hook from the OBDii port to your laptop, and then download a free version of FORSCAN. Since you will be working with the theft system, you might need to buy the upgraded version. But I think I would use the free version first to get your feet wet. It might be a steep learning curve, I have never used it.
