I have a 2001 F150 purchased new, into which I installed the Ford Gold Remote Start and Security System. It has worked fine for 2 years, but now will not remote start. Apparently something with the PATS, as it still cranks, but will not fire. It starts fine when using the key.
Anybody had this happen, and what's most likely the solution?
I will help you out and bring it to the top again. I don't know much about alarm systems, and am glad I live where I don't really need one. Of course none of my vehicles are worth much anyway.
Here are a couple of troubleshooting things for you to try to help narrow down the problem.
Put your key in the ignition but don't turn it. Then use the remote to start the vehicle. If it starts then you are correct that the PAT's system is not being bypassed. There is usually a module that attaches to the remote starter that does this. It might have gone bad.
If it still doesn't start - then Start the truck with your key. Once started, try to engage the remote start and then remove the key from the ignition and see if the vehicle keeps running. If the truck dies, then it could be that the remote start is not sensing the tach correctly (Which is unlikely in this case) or perhaps there is an ignition lead that is no longer receiving 12V when the remote start is operating.
