Starter wiring question
Starter was engaging when the truck was running, only seemed to do it when it was raining. Last night it happened and than would not crank at all. Truck was towed home (roommate's truck)
Just now I checked a few things, solenoid on the firewall, lower stud has constant power, top stud has power when trying to start the engine, small stud has power at the wire when trying to start the engine.
Nothing from the starter
Went underneath the truck and when trying to start it the small wire on the solenoid has power, than I found he reason the starter wasn't turning, the wire coming out of the starter that goes to the solenoid on the starter was broken and just hanging.
I touched that wire to the starter and it turns but doesn't sound like the bendix is being pushed out.
I than noticed it looks like the wire going to the starter is coming off the positive battery terminal, is that correct?
So the starter solenoid has constant power all the time from the battery and the ignition turns on the solenoid on the firewall which sends power to the starter solenoid which than lets power go to the starter, correct?
