ICVR issues
A couple months ago all my gauges went dead, I suspected the instrument cluster voltage regulator, replaced it with a NOS Motorcraft D1AZ-10804-A and sure enough they all jumped to life but now they showed WAY too high - temp gauge used to show just under halfway warmed up, now it almost pegged hot, fuel gauge stayed on full forever, oil pressure used to level out around 1/3 up the gauge now it's in the upper 1/3 all the time. As the previous icvr showed more "normal" readings I assumed this one was defective. So...
Ordered a couple Chinese models from Carpenter (these are supposed to be "solid state") thought what the heck it's worth a try - well with BOTH of these my gauges show way too low (at least they're consistent) - when warmed up temp gauge barely reaches "cold", etc. etc.
It's affecting ALL the gauges, even the fuel gauge. I can't seem to find an icvr that bleeds the correct amount of current to the gauges. FYI the one that burned up was also a Motorcraft part I installed about 18 months ago identical to the one I replaced it with (that reads way too high). So two NOS Motorcraft icvr's that give TOTALLY different readings. Was wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this. I did find some NOS icvr's made by Standard Motor Co for General I am going to try next, the Motorcraft ones don't seem to be consistent. I did try another Motorcraft (NOS) I had laying around and it read even lower than the Chinesium ones, the needles BARELY moved.
Earlier I was thinking back and for some reason, thought it was 3 volts, but that doesn't really make sense, so I researched. I have seen 9 volts mentioned too, but maybe that was because of the terminals it uses that are exactly like those of 9 volt batteries, just spaced different?

And yet out of the THREE Motorcraft icvr's I had with identical part #'s they all gave different readings!
