So I have wanted to do this for a bit but could not find the right look that would not look too crappy/aftermarket. Don’t like the cubes hanging under the bumper and did not want to cut into my bumper. Found these on Amazon for $23 bucks I think. 1500 lumens and supposed IP68. I opened them up and resealed them with sealant. Wired to upfitter 6 always hot in case I need some additional lighting.
I remember your posts as you were going through the side mount design. They look sweet and want to something similar. I don't want to cap the ends of the hitch even though there are drains underneath. The side mount flush is definitely beneficial. I believe I sent you a PM before regarding a mount that would incorporate the side flood with a rear facing flood incased in the slot just to the side.
The issue that I have of those hitch mounted lights are that they stick out too far for my taste. There is also a hazard of being hit from underneath if you hit a trail.
Somebody in another SD asked my at a fuel station about my lights and was curious how I mounted them. Figure I would post here as well. Found an aluminum U-Channel slightly larger than the hitch. Lights came with L-Brackets which I sleaved around the U-Channel, attaching the brackets to the U-Channel and not the hitch itself.. I cleaned the hitch as best as I could, first with water and soap then with alcohol. I used two strips of 3M double sided tape on the back side followed by adhesive caulk on the inside radius and top and bottom inside surface of the U-Channel. I did not want to drill into the hitch. Another option would be to spot weld the brackets to the hitch. I did not want to do this either. Lights do help at night and figure when I do get around to do some camping later this year they will help while setting up.
@Prezi68 : You don't happen to recall what the dimensions of that hitch tube are, do you (as far as width and height)? I'm wondering if it's 2-1/2" square, like the receiver hitch.
