Incidentally, the fluid I collected from the system when draining was black as cola, I’ve left it in the bucket overnight, and now it’s clearer, like lemonade, and the solids have sunk to the bottom of the bucket. A sandy consistency.
So no oil.
Ok, but was there a rubber freeze plug in the hole you are asking about drilling out?
This? Got it, the second image was hard to guage size. Can you post a picture from further back, to be sure what we are looking at?
I am thinking what you are picking at is carbon build up in the evap system, It should not be connected to the coolant system.
Ok, so I would have done one bottle, ran it as much as you can without it overheating, not less than a couple of hours total, preferably driving it a good part of that time. Than drain, flush it out with hose water, forcing water in to the engine from the upper hose until it runs clear and do the process again at least one more time, probably 2 if it was as bad as you said.
Report back. Maybe pick at that gummed up crap a bit, on both sides, so you can completly drain the block and the crap that may be sitting in there as well

instructions said treats up to 3 gallons, use two bottles for larger motors
mine takes 4.3 gallons and it’s only $6 a bottle
was part way through and my kid called with an emergency, so had to walk anyway for a bit.
running 20 min before I quit.
will fore back up once I’m home again.
OK, so ran it for 20 min then got called away to help my kid... came back 2 hours later, ran the truck for 30 minutes, then drove it for 30 minutes - stop start like the other day.... needle didnt budge above M in NORMAL on the temp gauge.
So now need to wait for it to cool down, drain the chemical mix, fill with water, run for 20 min, drain, then fill with coolant at which point i will fit a new thermostat.
Wish me luck.
Side note - fixed the hood - now closes properly (was catching on the scuttle when opening and closing and wouldn't catch on the latch), and replaced a lose driver door mirror so no i can see whats behind me.
