It takes longer than 4 miles for the water pump to circulate everything into solution. The contents of the degas bottle do circulate though. I’ve seen that for myself when adding top off coolant after doing a water pump job. What came out of the jug was greener than normal but eventually mixed with the other stuff and lightened up in color.
always been jealous of the guys that had an engine serial number that allowed the red coolant. I would have done that a long time ago but don’t dare mess with that after explicitly being told not to.
Update,
I took it to work. It was about 30 miles there and back. It did mix well. The reading was -45 from the degas bottle. It still looks full, maybe it went down half an inch.
I know it’s supposed to hold 8 gallons. But I still have 1 gallon of distilled water and 1 gallon of a 50/50 mixture behind my seat, waiting to add 2 more gallons so it can reach 8 in total. Even though I have never been able to fit 8 gallons in it, even after flushing it three times and changing all the coolant hoses. The most I have ever managed to put in is 6 gallons so far. I am thinking the block is holding onto 2 gallons of distilled even when you pull the block plugs and all the hoses. Or the Heater Core, no way to drain that.
I have a big trip planned at the start of September with my 5th wheel. If there is a 2-gallon air pocket, it should flush out during that trip, I guess.
