This might have been asked before but I couldn't an direct answer.
I need a new sending unit for my F-2. Dennis Carpenter has them along with LMC. Both with shipping LMC comes in about $7 cheaper. Everyone wants to save a buck when they can, any difference in quality of parts? Anyone have an opinion on who to go with?
What kind of sending unit. It depends what you are buying. LMC is a better deal on some stuff but DC is more likely to work properly on things like senders.
I pulled the trigger and bought from Carpenter. Cost a little more but I assume since they concentrate on Fords they are probably the one to go with. $7-8 isn't going to kill me, just like to same a $ when I can.
If I recall correctly, LMC isn't exactly clear on what sending units and gauges units are stock (King-Seeley) style, and what ones are ohms/resistance based. You can't mix and match - your sending unit must match your gauge. However, Dennis Carpenter lists ohm ranges for their some of their "stock" style sending units, which is disappointingly and infuriatingly bonkers...
Luckily I bought the original-looking gauge replacements that use modern senders, but if I were not in this boat, I'd never order online, phone only, because I'd want them to tell me what exactly they know about their own product before I gave away my money.
I should have a couple of used units in my stash but I thought I avoid repeated probems from old units, they are all 70 years. Hopefully the Carpenter units will work fine. I'll report if they do or don't.
