Exhaust mods in progress...
Ditch the MASSIVE front resonator and the restrictive rear muffler.
Execution:
Flowmaster 530513 "50 Series" Big Block Chambered Muffler has 2 - 2.5" inlets and a single 3.5" offset outlet. My 2016 has the same inlet, but a single offset 3" outlet.
[Obviously the Stock 3" pipe is on the left (going to the muffler) and the 3.5" Flowmaster outlet is on the right.]
Install Tips:
Cut the front resonator off at the inlet pipe as close as possible to the resonator keeping as much straight pipe length as possible.
Loosen the upper pipe's flange to allow the pipe to rotate (it is bent), and turn it until the pipes align with the muffler - it will do this in 2 positions, try both to get the position you desire.
In-progress Testing:
The single 50 Series Big Block muffler replacing the resonator is loud, and quite raspy when rev'd. Too much for this old man.
We used 3.5" pipe to connect the 50 Series to a Flowmaster 853548 Super "40 Series" Chambered Muffler (3.5" Offset in/out) to quiet it down, and it ties in to the factory exhaust pipe nicely.
Note: The diagonal pipe is temporary to test, but will be replaced with the appropriate 3.5" mandrel bends. The Front muffler may even be cut/flipped 180* to make it a top exit.
Results:
Rumble on start up, near stock noise levels at idle, but more "authoritative". It gets louder at WOT, but not annoying and there is ZERO drone (I believe that is due to using 2 DIFFERNT muffler series), although a 3.5" in/out "Turbo Muffler" would probably have worked better at a reduced cost.
Need to look at the before/after datalogs, but the off idle/pullout throttle response is GREATLY improved.
Very happy overall, the intake noises created by the DIY CAI are all but gone (same thing happened on my '89 Mustang); which is better since it had multiple harmonics (900rpm/1800rpm/3600rpm...) and got tiresome when under load.
Starting MPG was 12.9 (over multiple tanks), right after it jumped to over 16.8MPG on the return trip (Highway), but as I got further into regular driving it dropped to 14.1MPG on our 2nd tank. But that is with a LOT of WOT acceleration hits showing it off. I expect it to settle in at 14.5-14.6MPG and I haven't even done plugs/wires yet!
Overall, very happy, but the second muffler (if used) is going to determine your noise levels and about 40% of your costs.
Super happy with the 3.5" pipe all the way back!
The exhaust does its job but the 6.2 like any big block V8 needs to exhale with extreme freedom. I was recently given a work truck to drive and I know and feel there's a lot left on the table with these 6.2 engines.
Thank you again for sharing, God bless you
