I hope that this is not a repeat question, I have searched the forum but have not found an answer.

My simple question is: Is a 9/30 build date 6.0 vehicle equipped with the "04 motor changes?

The vehicle I am looking at is this VIN: 1FMSU45P34EB03833

The longer story is below:

I am shopping for a new 6.0 Excursion and most of the units I have found have build dates from last summer. I want one with the "new build" engine mods, so I am looking carefully at the build dates on the window sticker as well as the door jambs and the red "2004" sticker on the passenger side valve cover. It is my understanding that trucks built after 9/30 should have the newest updates.

I thought that I had found the perfect unit on the web, and the sales lady at Bob Lynch in Gilroy (California) said that the door jamb build date was 10/03. The dealer is about an hour drive from home, so I waited 'till Saturday to go check it out. When I got there, I was disappointed to find that the build date was not October, but 9/30. Ugh. Now, I've found the right truck, but I'm not sure it's got the right build motor.

Can anyone help me determine if this motor has the '04 changes?

my understanding is that all 04 motors have a build date of Sept 29th or later

it will have a 2004 sticker on the passenger side valve cover and a build date sticker on the drivers side valve cover upper right corner [hard to see use a flashlight]

ignore the door and window stickers that is the truck assembly date at Ford not the engine mfg date at International

by the way I would have no qualms with a late build 03 as it will have the "better" C95 injectors and not the early pre May 03 C94's which caused most of the problems

7300 miles on my june build with zero service problems

 

I am more and more confident that the newer builds are OK. It also doesn't seem that Ford is building very many Excursions, so the one on the lot is probably the best bet for me.

I definitely don't have the patience to order one!
