I have a crew cab 1986 f350. It’s an xl with all red interior id like to swap it out for a different color and while i’m doing that i’d like to upgrade what’s the best option with what will fit. someone told me the next generation 86- something before the obs has the same cab, does the obs have the same cab or just the previous generation because i’d like an interior from an obs. also what years for for the rear doors because mine are rusted.
1987 thru 1998 have the same cab. Dash is a little different, so some of the trim up front may or may not fit. Don't throw your interior away, you can paint some of the red pieces if you need them to match the newer interior, which will probably be a dark blue or grey in those years. I would think the rear doors will fit also.
You can easily recover your headliner with new material in a different color. You may find changing the color of your interior the easiest solution. The newer vinyl paints stick well once you clean the plastic pieces good.

So the 80-86 cabs are exclusive to those years? i always thought they were all universal because it seems like finding a crew cab for those years is relatively rare.
The actual sheetmetal when you strip it bare is mostly the same 80-86 and 87-98. They changed something around the vent window area for the doors 87-up, but the whole door will still bolt up. Never heard of any differences with the rear doors. And the dash is different. So some of the plastic on either side of the dash may be different, like over the A pillars.
Early crewcabs can be hard to find in good shape. In the early days they were work trucks hauling work crews to job sites and getting beat up in the process. You will probably find more down in Texas, where the weather is better and they used them in dually configurations to haul livestock trailers.
He is saying the doors, front & rear, will inter change but not the front door panels as the dash is different on the 87 - 89 trucks so the panels are different too.
I am not sure on the rear door panels if they will inter change or not?
As said your best bet is to paint / change the color of what you got as finding any panels will be a long shot and even less for the rear doors.
When you go and change the color use only SEM products. Wash the planes with hot soapy water like 3 times changing the soapy water between washings.
SEM makes a spray adhesion product use it before the paint color and you will not have any problems.
Also on the dash pad top DO NOT make is shine as it will reflect off the glass when the sun is out. I believe they make a clear flattener you can spray over the top.
Or you can get one of them rug dash pad covers to put over it so it will not reflect the sun off the glass.
