Here's my 7 leaf springs, with 3 removed, starting from the bottom. ( full weight on truck) I'll be putting a leaf or two back in, but how abnormal, or normal , is this and how flat is acceptable?
The straps used to hold the pack together look modern and have rubber sandwiched, I'd say they are newer. No bumpstop for obvious reasons. Gonna be a ok ride until you hit a big hole.
I don't have much info on them. I was given the springs (7 leaves ) and axle off a 56
( not stock ).
Bolts and bushings appear to be newer.
also, the ends are square cut. I'll put at least a couple leaves back in and see where I'm at.
I'll post a pic of my 6 month old Dorman replacement springs on the front of my stock 223ci I6 truck here in a few, should give you an idea of what they look like in the best of condition.....hint hint........they're already pretty flat.
Looks pretty flat to me as well.
I would suggest getting the bump stops back in place.
When I put my truck together I neglected the bump stops. No big deal, drove it for several years. One night I was horsing on it pretty hard and hit a pretty significant dip in a long sweeping right hand curve. Hit the dip pretty hard and something immediately felt weird. The next morning I got to looking around and found this;
I got lucky and nothing came apart. I got even luckier when Ross (Albuq-F1) offered me a set of spring packs he took of his truck.
I think I took out the bottom most leaf is all.
If, you're not lowering the rear a similar amount you might consider some caster shims between the spring pack and axle. Two to 4 degrees should do it.
