How many springs?

Hey guys I was just reading a post about all the stuff you guys haul in your trucks and that got me to thinking about the rear leaf springs on my 53. I looked in the Mid Fiftys catalog and it looks like there are 6 leafs to a set. I only have 4 leafs per spring set. Just how many should there be?

I have 7 in my rear leaf pack. 6 can be seen in this pic, plus there is a short straight (overload?) one that you cannot see.

I have polyliners between the springs, so they look funny.

This is how my truck sits with those:

Do you think 4 will be ok or should I put a couple more under it? I don't plan on hauling anything in the back. Just want a decent ride. Why would the PO remove 3 springs? Nice truck, I like the way it sets.

Thanks. I have started on the body work now.

Most people remove a few leaves to soften the ride and lower the truck. I lowered mine (a lot that way) and put it back the next week or so.

I live where there are a lot of rough roads as well as dirt roads. Lower is not the greatest idea around here.

Its funny to see the low-rider kids around here. They practically have to stop to turn into a parking lot. I don't bother to slow down over the bumps.

I think you will be perfectly fine with what you have though. In fact...mine is a 56...maybe they are different?

Four leaves is about the minimum you should run on the rear assuming you carry nothing heavy in the bed. Those four will give you the softest ride and lower the truck as well. Since you do not plan to haul anything I'd keep the springs just like they are...
