Looking to turn my 4x2 into a 4x4. Dont want the new fancy front end, i want the old style 1999-04. How easy is it? If its bolt on sweet, if not i can weld and have a welder so no issues there either, i just want to know whats i need to buy to put one of those older front ends under it. i know transfer case, axle, leaf springs etc.but would like a full list.
I have a 2003 F250
If I was having to go to all the trouble to fabricate everything you're going to have to, I would do a 4 link w/coil-overs. 99-04 leaf springs don't ride that well & turning radius is like a cargo ship. I would go over to Pirate4x4 & do some searching through the ford section. I'd think you'd find a lot more perinate technical info there.
I would buy a full frame and swap the body over .
the 2x4 has a huge cross member that has to be removed for the proper 4x4 cross member.
If you have a shop and 2 post lift , it won't take long lifting the body and swapping frames .
Swap frames, mainly because that way you can recoat the donor while everything is off. Factory wax coating sucked, even my southern trucks are starting to suffer.
These trucks are 20+ years old, there's a million of them out there, and they all need some work.
