1999 V10 electrical gremlins
I am having an issue with the ignition/starter.
I put the key in to start the truck , depress clutch , turn key to start , it will sometimes start fine , but the starter stays engaged for several seconds , not always .
other times , the truck may crank a couple revolutions , and act like a weak battery , turn the key off , and the starter is still trying to crank the engine .
put truck in neutral, throw the jumper pack on with key in run , engine starts ..
back story , I had a leaking windshield a couple years ago , replaced and fixed that .
I was having odd electrical issues, prior .
I have removed the fuse panel / gem module .
no signs of water intrusion into the gem , but did have a small amount of corrosion on some , as in 2 , of the lowest pins on the fuse box harness .
I have read the other post here about fuse box / gem issues , and watched the video , on cleaning the fuse box that was posted .
I have not drilled the studs to be able to do that job as of yet , but have a feeling I will be forced to .
only other electrical issues at this time , are the mentioned starter problem , radio comes on and off randomly ( not stock but wired with the proper kit ) no sotf , and power mirrors are inop.
I would be greatful for a little opinion .
I am 67 years old , been wrenching my entire life , so am not ignorant to the world.
appears that the gem/ fuse box is specific to 99-01 .
any advise is appreciated .
I opened the fuse box , thanks to some videos. I was a bit overwhelmed at first , vet with ptsd.
opens up , and not horrible, but the first layer does have 1 trace , that had corroded in to 2.
I think I can solder it back .
I will let you know how it goes for me , I have all layers out in order , and am cleaning , drying , and reassemble them 1 at a time.

Once you are good to go, take a look at this stuff to spray into your fuse boxes to avoid further problems.
We are talking about this in the 6.7 section. Just putting it on your radar.
I've had no issues with mine but plan to buy a can and spray into my two fuse boxes to prevent any issues moving forward.

my thought is that you will have to dismantle the fuse box for that to really work the best .
there are 6 layers of plastic panels , all with a metal trace ...
I had a broken trace on 1 panel .
took apart and cleaned 1 panel at a time , making sure that was the only one .
there was enough corrosion in the first 3 layers to cause my problem.
all done now to reinstall it .
not easy with a manual transmission, clutch linkage is in the way , need 3 hands almost .
I will let everyone know if I screwed up or I won .
