So I got a new temp sensor for the 292 in my 55 F100. It's a 58 block and heads per the castings but swapped in without issue.
But I've not had a working water temp gauge since the install. Dennis Carpenter sells both the sensor and adaptor. All good so far but here's where I'm stuck and could use some help. Per the pic, the adaptor is smooth on the outside like it gets fitted into a hole. Problem is the water temp sensor hole in the block on the driver's side is threaded. I'm confident it's a 58 as I ordered a bunch of parts to build the 292. And they all fit! So if anyone out there can help me figure this out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Here’s a picture of the rear of my y block. On the passenger side you can see the location where the sender is located. Y block heads can be installed on either side. If my head was installed on the drivers side, that threaded hole would be in the front. Your sender should be in the passenger side rear location. What is in that hole now?
I may be wrong on that. I looked at some other pictures and I see I have my sender in the drivers side rear hole. The one in the passenger side rear I just have a threaded plug in it.
I don't understand your issue. If your sending unit is male threaded and the block is female threaded but a different size, you need an adapter and that bung you pictured is not it. Figure out your head thread size, the sender thread size and buy the appropriate adapter, install it and be done.
