Well, as I type we're getting hammered with snow; the first snow of the season in fact. I have a 1987 Bronco that I put a 460 into over the summer. I went out to start it today and it won't start. It turns over, and if I spray ether into the TB it'll fire, so it's getting spark. However, when I turn the key to the on position, I don't hear the fuel pump kick on. This Bronco did the same thing once a few years ago when I had the front end off to do some body work. At that time it was also cold out, like today, and I believe it had just snowed also. At that time I just played with it for a little bit and finally the fuel pump kicked on and it worked fine. I hadn't had a problem with it until today. Is this a common problem with high mileage Broncos/87-91 trucks? Has anybody else had this happen, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Thanks.
Check ur fuel pump relay first of all, Then check ur fuel pump manual reset located down below to the far left of the steering column, little black box unit with a white little button on top. If this does not work check ur wires going to the pump, they could be full of corrosion. Apply 12 volts to the hot line nearest the tank and if u hear a little vroom its okay, then ur problem is up front somewhere betwwen the relay and the reset. And if u still cant get it. Throw a little switch on ur dash and when u want to start ur Horse, swithch it on wait for 2 seconds and crank the key and shut it down when ur done.
Ford moved the relays and inertia switch from year to year. My 86 has the FP relay close to the master cylinder on the firewall and the inertia switch is in the center where the front edge of the carpet is.
