First post on the forum. I am the new owner of a 2017 F150 Lariat w/ a 5.0 V8. 88k miles.
Shortly after purchasing, I got the torque converter shutter many have reported. Just got the truck back from the dealer after they replaced the TC under warranty. So far, that seems to have eliminated the shutter I was having.
That said, there is another vibration going on that I am curious about. I can feel it in the steering wheel while driving between roughly 1200-1800 rpm. Outside of these rpm ranges it is smooth. The vibration can be isolated by placing the truck in park and revving up the engine to that rpm range. The vibration is not bad, and while driving you have to be fairly attentive in order to feel it. While in park, it is more noticeable, however, not to an extent that there is obviously something wrong.I should also mention that while sitting at a stop sign at idle (in Drive) it idles mostly smooth but I can feel a very slight vibration every few seconds. This is barely noticeable, but still there. Every once in a while when I am at a stop sign, I don't feel anything at all and wouldn't know if the truck is running or not, so I do have that to contrast it to.
Could this be normal, or should it be completely smooth while sitting in park and revving it up? Any further diagnostic I can do to determine if there is something brewing?
Thanks!

Hmmm it seems as though this post is being passed up. Can someone enlighten me? I am new to the forum, but not new to forums. Have I hit a taboo topic, or made a noob post?
What fuel do you use? I'm curious if different octane levels would make a difference?
Thanks for the reply!
I have only filled up a couple times so far and have used premium. The first time I was at a pump that offered ethanol free, so I opted for that. The second was not ethanol free. I don't recall off hand what the octane levels of those were specifically, but somewhere between 91-93.
I didn't mention it in my post, but I also have a slight tick at idle that can be heard from the drivers side wheel well. After running premium, it seems to have helped that quite a bit.
Do you have a recommendation on fuel/octane level? I have been wondering if I should maybe try E85 to try and clean out the injectors?
Spark plugs ever been changed? If not I would start with that.
I kind of doubt they have been changed. I had the CarFax and the AutoCheck for the vehicle, but there wasn't much on it for maintenance. I think the previous owner was doing his own maintenance.
I was considering doing the spark plugs anyhow, so I will definitely do that here in the near future.
IIRC the injectors on that vintage are relatively loud. I would suspect that it's those injectors you hear ticking.
Got it! I took it to a local mechanic shortly after I purchased it for a unbiased look over (yes, I know I should have done this pre-purchase...didn't happen this time). He said he heard it coming from the top end of the engine. That said, maybe that could easily be confused with the injectors. I will have to investigate further myself. I have a reason to purchase a stethoscope now.

Hey Bearsfan, welcome to the FTE! I have the same truck for 7 years now. I do all my own wrenching and know my way around the truck reasonably well. I don't live too far from you, and If you have time, we could meet up and I could walk you through the nuances of your truck. I also have the FORScan software on my laptop and we could look at any diagnostic codes and do some some popular computer mods while we are at it. Spark plugs and a throttle body cleaning would be a good start. LMK by sending me a PM.

Thanks man! Will PM you
Edit: Looks like I need to wait about a week in order to PM you as I just registered the other day. I will hit you up when I am able.

Fuel injectors, especially direct injection injectors are noisy, and can sound like an old typewriter. The plugs in these trucks should really be done at 50k miles. Ford is over optimistic giving them a 100k mile service interval.
