My 2002, E450, 6.8L V10 Jayco 32' Class C Motorhome 34,490 miles has had a vibration since the day I drove it home. The problem is 10000% not the engine. Just been on an hour test drive hooked up to FORD dealer scanner. Tech could not find anything with the engine that would be causing vibration so engine is not the source of vibration. Tech Felt the vibration a number of times.
Under light load ANY SPEED 1500 RPM causes vibration similar to Misfire.
It comes back about 3500 RPM 60 mph under heavy load.
It is a course vibration just like a single cylinder misfire in a V10
The vibration is only under load, shift to neutral or drop the throttle vibration goes away.
At low speeds the vibration chatters your teeth. very violent shakes the whole rig
The vibration feels more in seat than Steering wheel.
The Rig is 20 years old and has a rear end down stance on level ground.
My question is are there any somewhat common to these Ford Motorhomes that cause this type of vibration?
Ford tech is leaning to Torque converter issues does that sound probable?
Could it be as simple at rear springs sagging causing a Pinion Angle vibration?
Have you checked the u-joints and intermediate bearings (if present)? Pinion angle off by a little in and of itself won’t cause vibration but can cause u-joints to fail early.
The most thorough scan won’t pick up a failing crank damper or cracked flex plate so I don’t know how you discount engine vibration through a scan.
Engine Misfire is #1 choice to suspect with this type of vibration. The engine is running perfect. A busted/cracked flexplate causes constant vibration that gets worse engine speed.
I've owned 2 vehicles with busted Flexplate the vibration was totally different than this. Best way to describe the vibration is it feels like an engine misfire under light throttle load and again at higher RPM's Ive spent over $1000 fixing this "Engine Misfire". Scanner proved 100% no misfire it runs perfect.
Along with what's been offered so far I'd check the rear tires & wheels, check motor and transmission mounts as well. Has the differential been checked and serviced with new gear oil?
Get a second opinion from another Ford Master tech. I would still be looking at the engine, and not with a scan tool. Try a mic on the crankshaft. I would be checking the thrust bearing on that crank first. If the vibration is static or not. If it is slight load or not. Several variables need to be ruled in or out. Damn straight the driveline center bearing even if brand new might be loose in its holder. Start with a few more basic NVH diags

I have a 2001 F350 Super Duty with a 2 piece driveshaft that had vibrated since I bought it. If your RV has the same Relacing the carrier bearing and U joints ( actually replaced entire assembly) cleared the 1500 rpm vibration COMPLETELY 03/10/24.
