no start issue

I have a no start issue with my truck. when i turn the key to the on position all is normal. When i turn the key to the crank position no power goes to the solenoid ignitor wire. I have checked the actuator rod and it moves as it should, I have removed the ignition switch to inspect and it appears intact and not separated. After visible inspection I reinstalled switch and adjusted to ensure that the rod is pushing it all the way and it is. I can jump the solenoid and the truck runs and operates as it should. I have seen other posts with the same or very similar issue and never see the final diagnosis posted... Any one with similar issues or experience please chime in.. My initial thoughts are the ignition switch, or the neutral safety switch.. any other ideas before i start throwing parts at this truck? trouble shooting tips?

original factory truck.

Yes. You should have done more than look at the switch. I would have used a screwdriver to operate the switch to see if the truck started. If not I would have then tested the switch with a test light or multimeter.
