Ok, short of sounding ignorant I need to know where the ECU is on my truck. The instructions with the Jet Chip I just bought are very basic for all vehicles so they don't get into specifics. A guy at the Jet Chip tech support told me it's behind the fuse panel and/or behind the driver's kick panel on a 2001 F-250. My trusty Ford shop manual on CD calls it something other then a ECU (I think they call it a PCU) so before I pull the PCU out to find that's not the right computer, I'm looking for someone's other input. Can someone tell me where the chip needs to plug in? And the CD tells you to take the driver's wheel well panel out, do you have too?
The ECU is behind the driver side kick panel, and you don't have to take out the inner wheel well, just the one bolt that holds the block to the firewall.
The chip will just plug into the ECU, I believe there is a rubber plug or cap to remove.
Whole job should take less than 20 minutes.
Yeti's right.... The pcm is located behind the drivers kick panel. You dont have to take off the inner wheel well but I would suggest standing on something to clear your fender. I'm 6'4" and I had to stand on one because you have to be kind of a contortionist (no not that kind of contortionist Abendx!) to get a socket on the bolt that holds the harness on...
I have a Diablo chip and it alot easier if you "split the case" on the pcm and then clean the lacquer off the contact points. Be VERY careful that you take only the lacquer off and not the contact point material...
Good luck... if you have any problems, let us know. Some of us (me particularly) learned the hard way and if we can make it easier, we will.
Just curious, why did you go with the Jet chip and not the Diablo?
I bought the chip used on eBay. If I bought a new one I probably would have bought something else but this was cheep enough at $100 to give it a try. If I don't like it I'm not out too much money. I have the K&N FIPK intake on the truck and a new exhaust is down the road so I wanted to maximize the package.
Now on the installation let me get this straight. It's on the inside, bolted to the fre wall and behind my clutch pedal. You made it sound like it's in the engine compartment, or maybe the harness that needs to be unbolted is in the engine compartment. And, the used ship didn't come with anything to clean the ECU contacts. Do you think I can get away with alcohol on a lint free cloth?
The harness is on firewall of the engine compartment, and the ecu is behind the kick panel. The contacts come from the factory with a coating on them, you can use a light scotch brite pad, being carefull only to take of the film and not the actual contacts themselves and then clean them up with a alcohol pad.
If the truck doesn't start the first time, you may have to re-do the process.

Got it in today. On my manual tranny truck it was by no means an easy job but it's done. I wouldn't say I got a huge increase in power but without having an automatic there may not be much of a noticable change anyway. The throttle is more responsive, I guess I'll have to see if I get a fuel milage increase. We'll see.....
Anyone got a new Borla exhaust for sale under $500.....
