Odd temp fluctuations

22 F250 7.3. Drove from IL to TN and back this weekend. Coming home the ambient temp was 95, the trans hovered around 215 (not towing) on the expressway driving ~ 73 but what's odd is the engine temp hovered around 185. When I got off the expressway and came to a stop it dropped to 178. Once I started driving, back up to 185.

On the expressway the trans was hitting 219 for periods of time.

Odd

So what’s odd about it? The thermostats are old-school, hotter fluid gets more flow mechanical devices. Not digital electronic control trying to lock operating temps to +/- 1°F.

The more accurate the monitoring gauges get the more people worry. It’s probably the main reason the automakers started going to the “idiot gauges” that lock the indicator into a spot in the normal range and then peg hot (or low/high) when conditions warrant.

I agree... Nothing odd about any of those temp numbers, especially at that ambient temperature... JMO

Odd
Sounds about normal for that truck configuration.

so now I've just noticed my 23 f250 with a 7.3l coolant temperature readings fluctuating from a high of 197 then when i let off it will drop down to 172 and that's after driving it for over an hour, i swear this thing use to be pretty consistent in the low 200 maybe getting down to 198
