1939-40 Tonner Identification
The lack of records and sheet metal are issues for sure.
But a chassis with numbers and features is solid evidence.
That's what makes it interesting.
It is a neat piece of Ford production. And it isn't run of the mill.
I find it interesting that the numbers fit in to USA Mercury production ranges.
Part of the prefix indicates 1939, but part of the prefix isn't included in the 39 records.
The sequence number fits in latter part of 1940 Mercury production.
But Mercury building trucks in the USA prior to the War isn't supposed to have happened.
The numbers fall in to the 1939-40 Mercury ranges, which is Prewar.
It has features that contradict known production assemblies and records. And it's been together a long time.
