Died and wont start

Hello all,

I was driving my truck and it randomly died mid drive. Went to accelerate and had no power and then engine idled down to nothing and quit. It no longer starts but seems like it wants to. It coughs and smokes some when it does. Replaced the CPS with the black sensor and still nothing. WTS light turns on when turning key. What next steps should i take to diagnosing it.

Check fuel pressure. You can check it at the fuel filter housing with a tire pressure gauge. Needs to be atleast 20 psi while cranking.

Check the overlooked "obvious" things first. Verify it has fuel in the tank, make sure oil levels full also.

Does the tach show movement when cranking?
