Hey guys. I got to do the water pump on my truck. 1995 f150 4.9. I've been looking at what the local auto stores have and they all have such awful reviews. Anyone here who has done this job? Can you please recommend me the part brand you used? Id be so grateful.
If you guys have the original part number for the pump that would be cool too.
I once replaced the water pump on my F250's 7.3l IDI. I ordered a Motorcraft pump. Installed it and then the bearing started going. I was working the truck and needed it fixed asap. So I stopped in the closest auto store and all they had was a reman. I bought it, installed it after work so I could keep working the truck (Let me check my records for the year haha, you'll get a kick out of this) and that car quest reman has been in there issue free........ since 2015! The Motorcraft didn't last no time at all but I got a decade and counting out of a reman, so you just never know. Years latter (last year in '24) the pump went bad in the F450 and I installed a duralast from auto zone with a lifetime warranty. When the other goes, I'll probably buy the same for the other truck so I wont have to buy one for either truck again....oh, scratch that, it's off saved in a box now w/ a fresh gasket, ready for either truck. I had to replace the engine in the F450. Anyway, point is, if auto zone offers one with a lifetime warranty for your 300, grab it.
Our local parts store 'Remanufactured/rebuilts' are pretty much gone for ANY of our applications. We are being forced to buy 'NEW'-made-in-China' crap. That goes for 50+ years back-applications as well.
A couple of years ago, my wife's '70 Mustang 23k-original-mile water pump gave out. All I could get was new replacement 'Chinesium' casting (for an engine that hasn't been built since 1974) or go through the effort to rebuild her original (concours-casting-date-correct) pump at greater expense - Guess which I chose! And even at that, you're dealing with Chinesium parts. The first rebuild kit had a bent shaft! The second wasn't as bad and was at least usable without excessive shaft/pulley wobble...
For the record, In 1994, her car was 'poo-pooed' at a snobbish National Mustnag show as 'unworthy of being judged' despite being all 100% original other than a parts-store replacement 'exhaust that had surface rust on it', and non-original tires --- Would YOU drive 24 year old tires at 70mph?? We drove her car IN THE RAIN 500 miles to the freaking show!!! OTOH, other entrants were commenting on the paper assembly line inspection stickers/paint daubs/crayon marks from her car's assembly plant still under the hood, and other 'factory flaws' that were allowed out the door... We're DONE with those MCA (Mustang Club of America) *****

Yea! I noticed that too! I want remans not china trash I gotta modify. Sorry to hear about the mustang. I hope you and your wife had fun regardless. To be honest. No, no I wouldn't drive at 70 mph. Ive had some dry rot tires in my ripe age of 24 but, I am that silly.
You should be able to source a bearing and seal and rebuild the pump yourself.
These parts are just common industrial bits.. there should be a part number on both items and you can find the replacment bearing andvseal at a industrial bearing retailer.
