This is related to my other thread on the ignition actuator... here I failed at step one. Trying to pull the steering wheel with the puller and the pot metal threads just pulled out. Tried some light hammering and yanking to see if we could get lucky but the steering wheel is not coming off easily. Any suggestions? I could try to tap new threads, but the access isn't great.
i have had decent luck by loosening the nut up to flush with bolt top, then jerking real hard up on the wheel.
also try applying good pressure to the wheel with your knees, and whomp the nut/bolt with a bead blow hammer. the shock usually releases the wheels grip on the shaft.
Remove the steering wheel nut and then rethread it back onto the steering shaft 2 full turns.
Get in your truck and move the driver's seat to the full aft position. Grab the steering wheel and lean back so all your weight is on the steering wheel, pulling it aft.
As you're leaning back, alternate your weight from the right side of the steering wheel to the left side of the steering wheel, rocking it back and forth. Eventually it'll release from the splines, but since you put the steering wheel nut on in the 1st step, you won't knock yourself out with the steering wheel.
