Exposed line

Can anyone tell me what this line is supposed to go to or is it just some sort of open air vent. I’ve never noticed this before. It’s on the passenger side, top and on the back of the engine.

Where does it go if you follow it back? Could it be a vent for the front axle or transmission?

Not sure. That thing is buried back there. There is also a large clamp on it like it should be clamped to the hose it is currently draped over

I have always seen breathers with a breather cap on them but in this day and age they could be using a piece of open cell foam in the breather to keep the dirt out while letting the expanding air out.

My 2017 6.2L F250 has the exact same thing. It comes from down and behind the wiring harness and my end is open too. I’m going to get on the ground later and try to see where it goes. I doubt we have anything to worry about because it is been there for a few years. I’m just curious now.

I just got confirmation from a buddy that turns wrenches for a living. It is indeed a vent tube for the transmission. The clamp came undone and allowed the tube to shift to one side. Guess that’s why I never noticed it. All is well again. Ha!
