1960 C600 decode
VIN: C60C0U18058 - I can't tell if the digit before the 1 is a U or an 0...
Thanks for the help!
C60 = C600 gas
C = 292 2V Medium Duty Ford Y-block, 146 certified net HP @ 3800 RPM
0 = 1960 model year
U = Louisville Assembly Plant (There is no "O" plant code)
18058 = serial number.
135 = 135 inch wheelbase
J = Monte Carlo Red
C600 = C600 gas, 19,500 lbs GVWR
28M = December 28, 1959 production
J = Clark model 250V five speed direct transmission
N2 = Two speed rear axle, 15,000 lbs capacity, 6.33 / 8.81 ratios. (The maker is not listed, but this is almost certainly an Eaton axle, possibly model 15201)
No front axle code but given the GVWR and rear axle rating, expect a standard Ford axle without power steering and probably a 5,000 lb capacity.
19500 = 19,500 lbs GVWR
146 3800 = 146 Certified Net HP @ 3800
DSO not shown in picture.
If you can broaden out that picture we can probably get the rear axle info and we can get the Domestic Sales Office location.
IF the engine is a 360, that was swapped out some time after 1968 when the 360 was introduced. It's a pickup engine and lacks the HD features of the 361 FT truck engine.
The transmission may also have been changed out. Given the nature of the C series shifters, it would make more sense to repower with an FT and transmission from another C series. (That Clark may or may not bolt up to a post '65 engine)
An FE or FT engine has 5 bolts holding down the valve covers, and the intake manifold extends under the valve covers. The distributor is in front. The Y block would have the distributor in the back.
If you can post clear pics of the engine and the rest of the warranty tag more info can be decoded.
Also, giving you your own thread for your truck, so feel free to ask anything you want here.

The axel code is N2. I don't see any info on the DSO, what could that mean? I'll have to ask the seller about the possible re-power and see if they have any clear pictures of the engine.
I haven't purchased the truck yet, so hopefully I'll be able to close the deal and update with new pictures and update on the build.
The dream build would be to re-power it with a diesel and use it as a firewood/large building material transport. It has a dump bed, so a bonus would be fabricating some ramps and add car hauler to the list as well.
