can someone please direct me to anywhere I can decode the VIN for my 1975 F500 I’m restoring everything I find only goes to F350. Thanks you Vin/serial # tag from door jamb
C = 330 2V MD FT gas V8. This one has the cast 360 crank and smaller distributor drive.
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
V61578 = 1975 series number
158 = 158 inch wheelbase
B = Light Blue
F503 = F500 chassis & cab, 19,200lbs GVWR
4B8 = Standard cab without back of cab equipment. I do not have the complete info for upholstery, seat type etc.
A = New Process model 435 four speed transmission
F3J
F3 = Eaton model 15201 two speed rear axle, 15,000lbs capacity, 6.33/8.81 ratios
J = Ford front axle with power steering. The MPC I am using does not list the capacity but it is probably 5,000lbs.
19200 = 19,200lbs GVWR
74 = Seattle District Code (EDIT corrected)
This is pretty good for an F500. The last two F600s on here were 17,000 GVWR.
Check here regarding widow maker wheels and two speed rear axles, Posts 8 and 12 have links with info, discussion, etc.
Kinda confused where you got the 22 from regarding Charlotte the only other numbers I found were 74 under the district spec order codes which was Seattle could help me with where the 22 came from? Also there’s a rebuild sticker on the RH valve cover that says 361FT I’m not saying it didn’t come with a 330 but if I posted a pic of the engine with the giant square thermostat housing would you be able to tell if it’s an FT or better yet where would I find the number(s) on the engine itself?? Thanks somkich for all your help you guys are an amazing wealth of knowledge…….Carl Anderson
It would be real easy to swap a 361 in there, as all the engine mounting FT stuff interchanges easily, and most of the rest with little trouble.
The big square T-stat is FT, but also appears on other later engines.
If the intake is under the valve covers, and there are small runners on either side of the carb, and two additional bolts through the exhaust manifolds in the center--FT all the way.
I sure appreciate all of the info!! the old girl just got a partial krylon rebuild today and some chrome so parade season is right around the corner lol!!!
