Driving with under 50 mph message

I have a 2016 F350 with the 6.7 power stroke B20. It has around 73,000 miles on it. I use it to pull a 11,000 lbs fifth wheel camper and around town. I’m retired so not much daily use. I got the notification that I had 500 miles left on my tank of DEF. No problem, I will get some the next time I go out and put it in. Well the next time I drove the truck the message comes up “50 miles and you will be limited to 50 mph.”
The dealer is 60 miles away. Will I be ok to drive it to the dealer at under the 50mph? Thanks for your input.

Dave

Have you refilled the DEF tank? If you do, that message is likely to go away without needing a dealer visit.

If it wasn’t safe the engine would go to idle only, so no problem.

if you have filled and the warning doesn’t disappear you may need to reset it. It happened to me, there were no codes IIRC, so I disconnected the batteries for a few minutes and that sorted it out.

Thanks for the advice. I put one of the 2.5 gallon containers in yesterday and the fill screen doesn’t appear anymore. Previously when I would put the second container in it would overflow and make a mess on the side of the truck. Does it need to be filled completely to overflowing?

A friend came over with a scanner and we got the following codes
1 module $07E8
2 module $07E9

P207F/$07E8

We were able to reset the first two but were unable to do anything with the last one.

Everything I have read i have read is problems with the DEF system, injectors, pump, etc. Way above my skill level on repairs.

I will try to disconnect the batteries and see if that resolves the issue or at least gives me another 50 miles to get to the dealer for repairs.

Thanks

Still there after disconnecting both batteries for 5 minutes.

Thanks for the link and info. Looks like a slow ride to the dealer is in my future and probably a big bill🤦‍♂️

Fill the def to the top. It's a 5 gallon tank, so 2 jugs would just about fit.

Did you get this taken care of with your '16', Customer Satisfaction Program 21M01? Has to do with the def tank.

I am not sure. If I got a letter then I took the truck in for service. I will definitely take this information with me. Thank you for the this.

I have a 22 with 77,000 miles on it. I wait until I get the 500 mile notice and then pickup 2 2.5 gallon containers from Walmart. Both have always fit no problem. This has always worked for me. One thing that is strange is how many miles it takes for the truck to reset to full. Sometimes it's a few miles and sometimes it's been a couple of trips. Repeatedly restarting the truck has never reset the DEF lye meter for me.

Update, Issue fixed

An update on my truck. I made it to the dealership this morning without any issues. When the warning screen got to 0 miles to go before limiting to 50 mph it changed to “The next time you start the engine it will be reduced to 50 mph.” I was able to maintain my speed until I got to the destination.

The only charge was the diagnostic fee. The told me they had to run it through the regen process and would let me know what else was needed. The next thing I know the advisor walks out and says I am ready to go. The truck runs much better now and is much quieter. Now I will pay more attention to the exhaust cleaning cycle now that I know that the flash screen is stating that it is starting and not completed while the screen is on. I guess I should read the manual, Lol.

They also told me they don’t provide the service campaigns unless the code justifies it. My truck is running fine so I am happy. I just hope it stays that way.

Thanks to all.
