Hey guys, I have a 91 f250 and it came with a broken wiper switch. I just replaced the switch and im not getting anything but a clicking noise under the dash from a small black box.
any advice would we greatly appreciated, cheers!
The box is trying to drive the wipers, but the wipers aren't responding. Check the wiring. The wiper motor may need to be replaced if the wires are good.
typical problem with the wiper delay module is bad solder joints on the printed circuit board. unfortunately last i looked the module has been no longer available for quite some time now, like over 15 years.
only chance for working delay wiper is to repair the current module, of try to find a goon used one.
whenever in junkyards, i take all modules i can find.
Okay thanks,
I see a few of the modules for sale on eBay, maybe I will try that. Also, just to be sure.. where should I have the ground wire coming off the wiper switch grounded to?
I think you need a new interval governor they call it
But
Just in case
See if the wiper motor responds when you ground the wiper motor case with a alligator clip test lead
Agreed, your wiper motor may be shot, because IMO the governors last about forever
I've only replaced a few in 40 years
Are they cheap on Ebay?
Okay, I removed my wiper control module (black box) and plugged the new wiper switch directly into the plug eliminating the module. I’ve been told this should give me hi and low. Still no wiper action, so I’m thinking it could be my motor itself. What is the procedure for testing the wiper motor? When you say ground out the motor, what exactly are you referring too?
again, appreciate I any advice! Thanks!
Simply touch the wiper motor case with a good ground wire and see if it then operates
A long shot, but the ground straps sometimes do not make good contact and that's all they need is their ground repaired
