Paint and clear coat question for the painters
Paint and clear coat question for the painters
I am preparing to do some painting and have a question.
I am shooting an enamel base coat and the clear is Speedo-Line acrylic urethane clear coat.
the clear is a 4 to 1 mix. Do I need to add hardener to the base coat?
i was thininkg to add a bit of Japan Dryer to the base coat to speed up things. Not to the clear though. Leave the clear as it comes.
the temps are expected to be 80 as a high. Low in the 60's and beginging the spray about 0900 hoirs. So not at peak temp.
Thoughts ? Advice. I have painted vehicles before but do not call myself a car painter and i want to get better and learn.
thanks.

Ahhhhh. Today's paints are literally a chemistry class, and I appreciate your thoughts as back in the 70's it was "common" to spray urethane clear over lacquer to get the best of both. Today I would highly not recommend this this approach.... stick with one paint manufacturers line and stay with it. They will know all about the compatibility of their products and it's not just how will it finish and dry out, but 5 years down the road I have see paint do all sorts of crazy things when people mixed different brands together.
