Odometer Help Needed

I’m working on my 66 F100 and have discovered a disaster in the wiring that the previous owner did so I’m replacing the gauge cluster and whole wire harness. My only issue is the odometer. It didn’t work when I bought the truck and my new gauge setup I’m getting doesn’t have one. Does anybody know how I can repair the one that’s there and transfer it to the new cluster? Or are there any other options for reproduction ones or anything that I can make work?

Odometers are typically built into and work in conjunction mechanically with the speedometer. Especially in our original gauges. I'm not sure what gauge setup you're getting that doesn't come with an odo, never heard of that before. There's going to be no practical way you can take an original odo out of a stock speedo and attempt to graft it into any aftermarket speedo, which really should come with its own. Perhaps you can show us or link to what you're using?

This is the kit I’m going to use along with a blank bezel that I can position everything how I want it. They sell individual speedos with odometers in them but this kit doesn’t come with one of those so I’d have to buy it separately and it’d be a different size.

They do have a complete kit but it’s only for 67-72 and I’m almost certain there’s no way it would work in my truck.

I was thinking I could get the odometer I have now working and fab something so I could get it on the new setup and have it function off of the stuff it needs to work. Just trim all the excess unnecessary stuff and only keep the important.

If you've never been inside a speedometer, perhaps now is your chance to see how they work. Yours is broke, so you can't wreck it any more.
Speedos for the last 100+ years have all functioned basically the same if mechanical and not digital. take it out of the dash, pull the needle off with your fingers, its a tapered push on fit, then look at whats goin on in there. The cable comes in and drives the magnetic thingy that also drives the worm drive for the odometer. in the old days that worm drive was two brass gears that seldom fail. later stuff may have plastic worm drive gears, i'm not sure what our slicks have. So in your case, one of the worm gears is bad. if you wanted to fix it...where to buy the gear? you probably cant.
Now, if you have gotten this far you would see that the odometer and its drive assembly is all part of the main speedo framework and really could not ever be separated and made to work in another home without great machine work and mathematical sypherin that most of us are not capable of.

why anyone would make a new speedo without an odometer is mind boggling to me! Perhaps they assume that since the gubment is tracking your phone you can just ask them how far you have traveled

Well, you got me there. With so many other gauges available, I'm not sure why you'd choose that one without an odo, but that's your call. They wouldn't get my money. I don't understand why they'd build it with 2 trip od's, but not a real odo. That makes absolutely no sense.

I think if you look closely, it has a digital odometer. I would require a sender, and maybe on is provided. That said, in the closeup of the speedo gage, it showes "Trip A", and that is exactly what it is, it happened to be set to the trip position when the photo was taken. I suspect that when you scroll through the various functions of the speedo gage, you will find that one is set to milage and will start to accumulate after your install is complete. Good luck with the project and keep us informed with how it goes.

You missed the remarks and disclosure in the description. Their speedo in this set has two trip meters, but no true, full odometer. Click his link and scroll down under the speedometer.

Speedometer

Speedometer reads your car or truck’s driving speed from 0 to 140 MPH with pinpoint accuracy. This speedo gauge features an analog display with 2 resettable Trip Meters so you can keep track of the distance you’re covering during longer drives. Note: This speedometer does not feature an Odometer.

Whoops...I should have read things more completely before I replied. That said...well that's dumb! If you can put a trip odometer on a gauge, why can't they put a proper odometer there too! Just saying
